Authors of the bestselling book, Wikinomics, explain how mass collaboration has changed the business scene and pretty much everything else today. The word WIkinomics is obviously a combination of very popular Wikipedia and the bestselling book Freakonomics.

In Wikinomics you will read about Facebook, Wikipedia, YouTube, Flickr, Second Life and other successful online communities and how they are more than just a social network but ended up a successful example of how mass collaboration can revolutionize the world. And true to what it preaches the printed book is only the start.

The basic idea with IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) remains the same as that of POP e-mail’s. Messages which are sent and received are first stored in your server until they are downloaded onto specific computers using e-mail client programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Netscape Messenger, and the like.

The main difference between IMAP and POP is that one can manipulate messages from different computers with IMAP. So for example, you have a desktop at work, a laptop you carry around, and a desktop at home. With IMAP, you can access your e-mail messages from any of these three computers without having to transfer them from one computer to the other. This is in fact a big improvement because with POP, once you download the messages to one computer, they are taken off the server. As such, you would have to physically transfer your e-mails from your desktop to your laptop for example.

Before we end, let’s briefly mention web-based e-mails. These are normally the free accounts although with both POP and IMAP, web hosts can provide access through the web. This is an attractive idea for those on the go. With this feature, you have more versatility.

It is no secret that the Internet has opened endless doors for many people and businesses. There are so many potential opportunities that are available thanks to the Internet. Some of these opportunities include advertising opportunities as well as a way of making some extra money without doing much at all. Blogs have become a huge part of one’s Internet experience. They are a way of sharing information, expressing your opinion, as well as keeping in touch. They have also become a terrific form of advertising. Advertisers place their ads within various blogs, visitors then are able to click on them and are linked to the advertiser’s website.

One way of advertising in this fashion is through blgads.com. This blog advertising network is great for advertisers and bloggers alike. BlgAds pays a blogger, when they become an affiliate, for posting the ads, and the advertiser only pays per click. It is a great way of advertising for a low cost. Blog advertising is becoming a rather large industry and this company is great at what they do. It is really easy to sign up as an advertiser or as a blogger. You can get your name out easily and for next to nothing, or you can make some money through blgads.com.

Reciprocal linking or the practice of exchanging links with sites to create traffic is widely used in Internet marketing. However, it has both advantages and disadvantages largely depending on how it is done. Exchanging links with just about any site will simply work against you. It is a good practice to exchange links with as many sites that have higher page ranks than you do since there is always the possibility of diverting some of their traffic to yours. On the other hand, low traffic sites may divert some of your traffic to them with no measurable advantage given back to you.

Maintaining relevancy even in the choice of links is vital to the general perception of the consumers. Linking with unrelated sites may only confuse the user, enough to make him/her consider another site. Not all big things are great either. Linking with sites that have a huge link directory can easily bury your site. The appropriate exchange of links can build online relationships that will serve future ventures.

Ever wondered what makes a consumer stay long enough in a website to actually make a purchase? Based on actual statistics, there are some major considerations to ensure success with users as well as the search engines. The time element is very critical. Websites should be able to relay their message in a matter of seconds. Failure to do so would allow the user to consider the next provider and the next until he/she finds one that will make him/her consider ending the search. Short and simple copy blocks always serve the purpose especially when specific sub-headlines are given to provide immediate context for site visitors. It should also be very clear to the user what exactly is being offered by the site.

It is no secret that the highly information-congested Internet makes user maneuvering difficult. Thus, to lead a visitor to your site, a strong theme indexing by search engines may be needed. The correct word placement on the page can also make a difference. It is important therefore to determine the keywords or key phrases that could sum up what the site is all about.

One integral part of Internet marketing is a suitable follow-up tool that will ensure continuous communication with clients and prospective buyers. A purchase upon the initial presentation is an exception. This means that even if it does happen, it doesn’t happen that often to forsake an effective follow-up method. A post card or an HTML newsletter can help in keeping the website’s offering in the minds of buyers. There is not one way that can be used for all customers since each and everyone would have their preference in receiving new information online.

Considering customers’ preference makes them more receptive to messages and the possibility of buying. Website owners should also consider their own commitment and skills for the follow-up program. Time is an essential requirement since it is important that the messages sent to clients are carefully thought of and creatively done. It takes consistency to stand out in a flood of emails, whether it is wanted or unwanted.

Online marketing is not just about putting up a site and waiting for the results to come in. Millions of sites have caused their own natural deaths without even experiencing a single sale to their credit. This is because many commit the grave mistake of waiting for things to happen. The Internet is an arena that is not so forgiving of the “look and see” attitude. The successful Internet players are those that actively participate in promoting and constantly improving their sites.

It is a fallacy to presume that a site can operate without a budget, planning, marketing and professional work. Very few can manage by themselves only because of their knowledge and experience. The others would benefit from a qualified boost in designing, building and deploying their websites. Dependence on professionals would eventually lessen along the way as website owners learn enough to integrate their own modifications and ideas.

To help you understand here’s an overview of the expenses that comes with DIY hosting:

•	Hardware Expenses – A low cost PC will not do if you want to host your own site. You need lost of storage space and a high speed connection that allows your server(s) to be online 24/7.

•	Software Expenses – You will need licensed software. You can use Linux though if you want to cut on costs.

•	Labor Expenses – If you are not tech savvy you will need to pay for someone to set up AND maintain the whole thing for you. If you do it yourself you will save money but it will cut into your time.

Common Sense – the use of it is essentially what successful Internet marketing is all about. Realizing the difference between what works and doesn’t simply by analyzing what you yourself as a consumer would want to experience is the key. Let’s face it, majority of Internet consumers are not technologically savvy people who would concern themselves with the intricate details of online purchases. The websites that are considered the most user-friendly are those that can be used and understood by the buying public.

It is so easy to get caught up with the latest trends and tactics for search engine optimization. Statistics can easily be produced to “attest” to certain accomplishments a certain technique has produced. The beauty of using common sense is that it can be used to produce unlimited possible results when guided by the appropriate search engine optimization methods. As in all good things, proper perspective can only be achieved by being properly exposed to the target market and this would include front runners, other existing service or product providers and of course, the consumers.

If you run a small business, you might actually have lots of small change lying around unnoticed. This management practice is quite typical of businesses where the proprietor is also the same person handling the books.

How do you get to leave small change lying around? Quite simple actually. Small businesses prefer to settle everything in cash even if credit was offered, as cash accounting greatly simplifies things. However, it may also lead to a tight cash situation making some advance acquisitions, which may make volume discounts, difficult.

Consider hiring a cost accounting consultant to go over where you can gain small change just by changing your operations habits. Perhaps you may actually find more areas to focus on.
