The prestigious car magazine “Car and Driver” has recently named the Passport 9500i radar detector by Escort as the best radar detector ever claiming “The Passport 9500i takes the next great leap forward”. No doubt, the Passport 9500i is a huge leap in technology and functionality over previous models and actually comes as an improvement on already highly advanced models by Escort.

To truly understand the power and innovation behind the Escort 9500i some basic knowledge of radar detection technology and product history is required. The first significant advancement in radar detection technology dates back to 1978 when Cincinnati Microwave introduced the ESCORT, the first true X, & K-Band super heterodyne detector incorporating a varactor-tuned Gunn diode. This was a great improvement to the then typical passive detectors which frequently suffered from false alarms and were unusable in areas having high spectrum utilization.

The new line of ESCORT radar detector had very few false alarms and approximately 20dB or over 330% better range than all other detectors. As of 1978, ESCORT has managed to dominate the market and set themselves as trend setters in the industry.

By 1984, ESCORT introduced their Passport line of radar detectors, the first consumer product line to utilize Surface Mount Technology (SMT). This allowed them to reduce the size of their unit to approximately a quarter of the size of a standard radar detection unit and became extremely popular paving the line for the SOLO detector and the ESCORT DSP which were released in 1989.

By the year 2000, ESCORT introduced their Passport 8500 line of radar detectors which quickly became known as the best radar detector ever invented. As part of the Passport 8500 series, ESCORT introduced the Escort Passport 8500 x50 in 2004 which new signal processing design of the Passport 8500 X50 radar detector which operated on all police radar; conventional and “instant-on” radar, including the new POP mode radar threat, X-Band.

As their latest edition and which now takes the crown of best radar detector ever, the Passport 9500i is built on the extended range of the Passport 8500 x50 but added a new GPS based system which allows users to “teach” the system to ignore known false alarms. This is the first product to drastically limit false alarms and is considered the “quietest” radar detector, providing the best protection ever invented.
