Manufacturers’ help lines only used to be for consumers’ use with regards to their troubleshooting and repair services requirements. With the introduction of top of the line entertainment products, confused and angry consumers also turn to it to help them set-up and understand their products. It is now fairly common for support centers to provide help even for brands that are not their own, especially if it is to be connected to one of their products.

The situation isn’t at all perfect but the latest moves of manufacturers seem to gear towards unification and simplicity. At present, manufacturers offer VIP customer number, a toll-free support number or simply excellent phone support.
